$30 covers travel, hotel, meals, workshop, and includes a CFA membership!

Growers will participate in a day-long workshop and site visit to see how Green Edge Gardens grows produce for market year-round!

The group will also tour ACEnet’s Food Ventures Center incubator kitchen and hear the role of this kitchen and their organization in creating a sustainable regional economy in Appalachian Ohio.

This field trip is targeted towards all levels of growers.

This is a 2-day trip to Athens, OH. We will depart from Hazard with optional pick-up sites en-route to Athens.

Green Edge Gardens is an operation in Appalachian Ohio that has developed an in-depth curriculum for all growers from beginners to advanced to extend their growing season in a climate and terrain similar to Eastern Kentucky’s.

Through their extensive practice of utilizing their greenhouses and grow rooms, Green Edge is able to ensure a year-round selection of seasonal vegetables, micro greens, and specialty mushrooms, which they sell to wholesale and retail customers. Because of their 12-month/year agrarian system, they are able to provide full-time, part-time, and seasonal jobs, verifying that their sustainable practices promote economic development through agriculture.

 

This event is pay-what-you-can. The suggested payment is $30. All payments will cover:

  • Tour of ACEnet
  • Full-day season extensionworkshop at Green Edge Gardens
  • Travel
  • All meals during the field trip
  • Lodging (you may be paired with a roommate)
  • 1-year membership with CFA (a total value of $208).

There is a 40 person limit to the trip, so register as soon as you can!

Deadline for registration is November 30, 2016. Any late registrations will not be guaranteed a hotel room.
