2020 was not what any of us expected or planned for, but it has given new breath to CFA’s work with and for Kentucky Black Farmers. Together, with advising from Black Soil: Our Better Nature, CFA launched the Kentucky Black Farmer Fund. Through the fund, with generous support from public and private foundations and, individual donors, we have been able to allocate 52 grants totaling $38,650 to Kentucky Black Farmers to aid them during the pandemic.
Why we are launching an Assessment?
As a second phase to our Kentucky Black Farmer work we are launching the Black Farmer Needs Assessment to provide a space to listen. CFA is striving to appropriately serve our Kentucky Black farmers. Within the many conversations between farmers and Kentucky’s local food systems we have continued to discover the gaps in the resources, communication and support for Black farmers, exclusively. This assessment is designed to better equip ourselves and other organizations with the tools to better connect with our Kentucky Black farmers.
